| Oakland
University - A University of Distinction by 2010 |
|
Oakland
University emphasizes academic excellence, concentrating on
delivering a dynamic, student-centered learning environment
by providing an enriching and diverse combination of liberal
arts, professional education, and social and cultural experiences.
OU offers a tradition of curricular innovation, faculty creativity,
technological resources, and strong partnerships with business,
industry, government and the community.
That means
a students' academic experience will be unusual, cutting edge
and among the richest and most fulfilling around. OU's faculty
of dedicated scholar-teachers brings real-world research,
educational and workplace experience into their classes

| so
students learn theory as well as valuable, real-life application.
And, more and more of Oakland's undergraduate students are participating
in high-level research projects, gaining hands-on experience
usually reserved for the graduate level at other universities.
Oakland encourages undergraduate students to explore research
opportunities through its Research Scholar Program that awards
dozens of $1,000 grants for approved projects. |
OU's small average
class sizes and low student-to-faculty ratio, means students receive
hands-on, high quality attention from inspirational and innovative
faculty members.
Oakland is continuing
its transformation with a goal toward being a university of distinction
by 2010. Oakland uses its location in the heart of Automation Alley
and one of the world's great population centers and economic engines,
its tremendous asset of property, its flexible size and a wealth
of academic and administrative talent to offer a collegiate experience
unlike any other in the country. Again, because of the university's
ideal location, many students have the opportunity to blend their
professional careers and their academic careers.
Oakland students
gain a true education in context of the world around them, and a
world they help create. Perhaps the best testaments to an Oakland
education are the graduates who flourish in the workplace and in
society. Oakland alumni are known not only for expertise in their
fields, but also for their ability to think, to create, to lead.
When it opened
in 1959, Oakland University provided this quality education to 570
students. Today, nearly 16,000 students each year take part in the
experience that better prepares them for a rapidly changing workplace
and society, and to be leaders for the future.
